About the event

What is Forest Bathing? A leisurely walk with guided stops along the way allowing you to simply be with the forest. "Shinrin-yoku" translates to "Forest Bath" and was coined in Japan, where research began in the 1980's on the health benefits. Deborah enjoys creating moments for you to relax, destress, and help to build resilience. This is a slow, very relaxing, and mindful way of being with nature. The walk ends with a foraged tea tasting in the woods.

Recent Forest Bathing Walk recommendation: “I really enjoyed the slow-paced relaxed state of the program. I feel like it really allowed participants to connect with the group and with nature. I already have recommended this to family and friends!”

Deborah Fowler is a certified Forest Therapy Guide and N.C. Environmental Educator. She was born in Charlotte and has lived most of her adult life in Durham. She identifies as queer, lesbian, and uses she/her pronouns. Deborah’s regular mindfulness yoga practice began with a class in 1998 in Australia. She is forever learning and deepening her practice with humor and grace.

Since 2000, she has stewarded public lands, nature parks and preserves, with many forest friends. Deborah is curious about the interconnections of all living beings and enjoys teaching naturalist skills. Forest Bathing Walks whisk together Deborah's 25 years of experience into bite-sized, insightful morsels for your unique wellbeing program.

WHAT TO EXPECT: A leisurely walk of approximately a mile with stops along the way where we will gather. We will focus on our senses to develop an immediate connection to the forest. This is a slow, very relaxing, and mindful way of being with nature.

WHAT TO BRING: Closed toe shoes Warm clothing (layers are best) Water, if desired Rain gear, if rain is in the forecast A sense of wonder and curiosity

I will provide a light-weight foam pad or a stool for you to sit on. Please bring a portable camp chair, blanket, or a yoga mat, if this would make you more comfortable.

OUR RAIN PLAN: The walk will still be on if it’s raining lightly, unless it’s unsafe weather---thunderstorms, torrential downpours, or the like. Rain often enhances sensory experience and makes for some of our most memorable walks. If there is any question about the weather, Deborah will send an email out prior to the walk.
